FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
San Francisco April 22, 2025— Jennifer Heller, founder of Here Comes the Apocalypse, to host Hurricane Awareness Webinar on May 5, 2025. In this one hour roundtable discussion, Heller and hurricane survivors will provide their perspectives and answer participants’ questions to help educate and guide families interested in preparing for hurricanes. Attendees of this free and informative event can expect to take away insights to help them begin their preparation journey.
May 5 is the start of National Hurricane Preparedness Week. Hurricane season is just around the corner, projected to begin in June and last through November. This is an ideal time for residents of hurricane-prone areas to take steps to prepare for the storms that could occur over the next few months. Heller’s Hurricane Awareness Webinar helps attendees learn more about hurricanes in general, and how their lasting impacts go beyond property damage and injury.
NOAA’s research on disasters causing $1b+ in damage from 1980 to 2025 finds hurricanes (tropical cyclones) at the top of the list for both property damage and deaths. Hurricanes are the only disaster in their research that have caused over a trillion dollars in damage since 1980. No other disaster comes close.
After witnessing her own family’s disastrous outcomes as victims of wildfires, Heller focuses on increasing the number of prepared people in every community likely to experience a natural disaster: “The strength and severity of hurricanes continues to increase, and their inland ranges may expand as they become slower and more intense. More people are in danger than ever before. Even a small amount of hurricane preparedness could mean the difference between life and death for thousands. I’ve invested years of my life into increasing disaster awareness and making prep more accessible through a system that keeps you motivated to finish, in the hopes that my efforts might make the difference for even one family.”
Heller’s take on disaster preparedness is that it’s never going to get easier until it’s fun. Her Disaster Playbook pairs engaging, relatable infotainments with actionable tasks and reliable advice.
